Church of the Good Shepherd Youth Leader Job Description
Church of the Good Shepherd is a Christian congregation of the Episcopal Church. We follow Jesus as Lord, and are committed to growing in our faith, friendships, and numbers.
Youth Ministry Mission Statement
We are a loving, accepting community of young people having fun together and making a difference in the world in the name of Jesus Christ.
General Position Description
To develop a vibrant middle/high school youth ministry at a small suburban parish, beginning with our ten or so current young people. We aspire for this ministry to expand through our own youth’s connections and relationships, and also reach unconnected young people and their families in our surrounding community. We want a hands-on leader who will not only work directly with youth, but will also recruit a team of adults and student leaders from among our members and equip them for success.
Specific Responsibilities
o Build, develop and model authentic Christian relationships with young people and foster the same among them o Facilitate a program and/or meeting every Sunday morning and at least one other time per week o Recruit and equip a team of adults to help with frontline ministry and behind the scenes support o Structure the youth ministry around the mission statement and ministry philosophies detailed by the parish on the accompanying pages o On an agreed upon schedule, meet formally and informally with young people and/or families at home, school, extracurricular activities, etc. o Take part in professional training as required and paid for by the parish o Build the ministry in faith, friendships, and numbers o Report to the Rector
Skills and Experience Required
o An ongoing and evident Christian faith, and active participation in a church o Passion and gifts for youth ministry and relationships o At least two years of volunteer or paid youth ministry experience o Satisfactory passage of background check
Compensation
o $15,000 per year for 20 hour week (flex time for retreats and special events) o Paid vacation after the first year o Employer paid retirement savings
